The Fragments show had examples from all four series of works that Ron Bloore painted during the last three years of his career. There were also four earlier pieces showing signs of things to come. Three of the late works mark turning points: the last work before the Yellows series, the first work after the Yellows series, and the first of the Black Lines. The arrangement used in the show is preserved here; a chronology is here. |
The star of the show, or at least the most startling, was probably "2002 June 11 - July 1st." Its central black shape was a shattering event in Bloore's painting which led to the black and white works of 2004 and the last four series. It is a masterpiece work by an artist painting beyond himself, and it is one of the four pieces from the exhibition donated to the Mackenzie's permanent collection. |
