* The Late WorksMany paintings in the '90's had flat unmodulated fields, "Feb. 2nd, 1995" for example, usually a slightly cool white or light grey. In November 2003 Bloore let the masonite substrate, simply linseed oiled, take on the role of the main feild hosting an interplay of white and now black elements. The studio assistant knick-named the series the Dark Chocolates and this name was played on at their debut opening at the Moore Gallery in 2005. It took only a few works to clearly establish the viability of this new motif. This warm brown ground, although inhospitable to the subtle shadows of Bloore's many trademark textural affects, which soon all but disappeared, positively cried out for the intensely coloured shapes he had been trying in recent years to introduce. |
